About Us

What is Sawa Foundation?

Sawa Foundation is an international humanitarian organization supporting the efforts of local community advocates in some of the poorest communities on earth. We listen to and befriend health professionals, educators, and community leaders who are making ground-up efforts to improve well-being. We are part of a network of volunteers from the US, Lebanon, Egypt, Iran, Argentina and Spain. Sawa Foundation is a 501(c) 3 registered charity based in Virginia Beach, Virginia.

Vision: We want to see post-conflict communities in the Middle East and East Africa enjoying peace; enriched by friendships and encouraged by cooperation.

Sawa in Conflict Zones

Sawa is especially interested in assisting people impacted by war and conflict.  During and immediately after war and conflict, governments have the least agility to respond to the needs of disadvantaged populations.  This is where non-governmental organizations can act advantageously to support the dignity of any population in a non-political fashion.

Sawa is about inclusion.

In each community where we serve, we see that women, people of racial and religious minorities, and people with physical disabilities are most disadvantaged in accessing education, health care, and participation in the workforce.   Many of our projects focus on development strategies to assist those populations as well as disadvantaged children.
